Riverside County is now the 10th largest county in the United States based on population.
The county had more than 2.3 million residents as of July 1, just enough to bypass Queens County in New York and land it in the top 10, according to data released this week by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Queens County includes the borough of Queens in New York City.
Three other California counties made the bureau’s top 10: Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange counties. Los Angeles is by far the largest county in the United States with more than 10.1 million residents.
San Bernardino County had more than 2.1 million residents in as of last July 1, making in the 12th largest U.S. county, according to the data.
