Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed starts the show by addressing the President’s announcement that he will keep nearly 10,000 troops in Afghanistan through most of next year and then scale back to 5,500 when he leaves office in 2017. For those who have forgotten the President’s many previous promises to end the war once and for all, Ed plays a montage of clips going back all the way to 2009 to refresh everyone’s memory.
Then, he points out the flawed logic this way. “If you remember,” Ed says, “when we pulled out of Iraq, commanders asked for troops to stay there as a force – no biggie – and Obama said no when they asked for 15,000. So they asked for 10,000, and he said, ‘I’ll leave 5,000.’ They said, don’t bother, then. But now, he says we’re going to leave 5,500 in Afghanistan.” Ed has thoughts on Obama dumping Afghanistan in the next President’s lap, including the conclusion that the timetable of all troops being pulled out in 2017 is because, “If anything goes wrong when all the troops are all withdrawn, it’s not on his legacy.” If you agree with this logic, tune in to The Main Event this week.
After that, it’s on to discussing the first Democratic presidential debate. While the Republicans focused on matters like cutting taxes, illegal immigration and national security, the Democrats debated things they think “average Americans” care about – like gun control, income equality, and Ed’s favorite, climate change. If you missed the debate or you fell asleep halfway in like many viewers, Ed plays a ridiculous soundbite courtesy of Hillary Clinton. If you haven’t yet heard Ms. Clinton claim that she and President Obama personally “hunted down the Chinese” at a conference in Copenhagen because they wanted to confront the Chinese government on climate change, tune in to The Main Event this week. It’s a doozie!
The show wraps up with lots of great analysis; Ed closes out with an intriguing segment on CNN “fixing” the debate results to declare Hillary the winner. If you haven’t heard what CNN did to change its own poll results to favor Hillary, tune in to The Main Event this week.
