This week, Rep. Paul Ryan was elected 54th Speaker of the House of Representatives. Ed explains the gravity of the moment: “For those of who don’t understand how this works,” he says, “if the President and the Vice President become incapacitated at the same time, then the Speaker of the House becomes President.” This comes one month after John Boehner announced his resignation, and a great deal of infighting in Congress has led to this development. The third Republican presidential debate was held in Boulder, Colorado on Wednesday, hosted by CNBC. The 14 Republican candidates took the stage to debate economic issues, but they were united in one thing: not believing the moderators were treating them fairly. Ed plays a series of clips from the debate that illustrate this – everything from asking Trump if he’s a “comic book villain,” to confronting Ben Carson about his involvement with a nutritional supplement company most people have never heard of, to asking Marco Rubio if he should resign from the Senate just because some op-ed in a Florida newspaper said he should.
Ed plays all of these moments and more, responding to each one in a way that common sense listeners can agree with. Ed remarks, “Did you notice the media didn’t ask questions like that at the Democrat’s debate? They didn’t try to gotcha Hillary Clinton on her or Bill Clinton’s speaking fees, or the Clinton Foundation.”
In the second half, things start off with Marco Rubio, who many people felt won the debate. “He had a couple of standout moments I’ll give him,” Ed says, “but so much of what he says sounds like all his other speeches.” Rubio had a couple of knockout answers, though, and you can hear them on this week’s show. Ed also plays and analyzes a variety of Carly Fiorina’s best debate moments, and continues to show her his support. “Everyone’s been looking for her big comeback,” Ed says, “and I think she was freaking brilliant Wednesday night.” If you want to hear Fiorina’s stellar tax plan and you love to hear a mainstream media moderator get crushed by a Republican candidate, you definitely want to listen to the second half.
