WLC Backers Hand in Signatures

Supporters of a proposed mega warehouse-distribution operation in Moreno Valley submitted approximately 48,000 signatures this morning in a bid to get the project placed on the local ballot.

The city clerk’s office will soon begin verifying the signatures that support the World Logistics Center, a process that is expected to take two or three days, Interim City Attorney Steven B. Quintanilla said.

Results or the verification process will be published on the city’s website, moval.org.

The signatures back three proposed ballot initiatives in support of the 40.6-million-square-foot project. The city clerk’s office did not break down how many signatures supported each measure, only that 48,000 were gathered.

Backers of the project, which the city council approved in August, must get the signatures of 10 percent of Moreno Valley’s registered voters – a little more than 7,600 signings – to qualify for the local ballot, in this case a special election, Quintanilla said.

Eight lawsuits have been filed against the World Logistics Center, which at buildout would be about the size of 700 football fields, since it was approved.
