New Police Chief to Start Work

Perris has a new police chief.

Brandon Ford, a captain with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, is scheduled to take over as the city’s top law enforcement official Thursday, according to a city statement.

Ford, a member of the sheriff’s department since 1996, was welcomed by the city council and city administrators earlier this month. He replaces Mike Judge, who stepped down for personal reasons.

Ford and Judge are both captains with the sheriff’s department who serve as police chiefs. That arrangement is part of a law-enforcement contract between Riverside County and several cities and unincorporated communities within its jurisdiction.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Ford worked as a patrol officer, gang-suppression specialist, homicide detective and a patrol and administrative services specialist. He also worked in internal affairs, and he was assigned to Moreno Valley before being transferred to Perris.

“[Capt. Ford] has performed meritoriously at each assignment and his wide range of experience, which includes providing police services to our partner cities, will serve him well and prove to be an asset to the community,” Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff said in the statement.

The department’s Perris station includes three cities – Perris, Menifee and Canyon Lake – and several unincorporated communities, including Gavilan Hills, Glen Valley, Lake Mathews and Mead Valley. The Perris station serves nearly 270,000 residents and covers about 250 square miles.
