On The Move

University of La Verne President Devorah Lieberman will deliver the keynote address at the Pomona-Inland Valley Martin Luther King Jr. Project’s 34th annual commemoration of the late civil rights leader’s life and legacy.

The event is scheduled to be held Jan. 17 at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Pomona, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

The National Council of Negro Women’s Pomona Valley Section will be a co-presenter of the event, which raises money for the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Social Justice Awards.

Those awards recognize teens 14 to 19 years old who have worked on behalf of civil or human rights, gender balance, public service or charitable work.

Lieberman is the first female and the first Jewish president of the University of La Verne, a position she has held since 2011. The university is operated by the Church of the Brethren, a Protestant sect that emphasizes the New Testament, specifically the Sermon on the Mount, and performing charitable works.
