Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, it’s all about the presidential candidates’ final efforts to make an impression before the Iowa Caucus. “Americans start voting on Monday,” Ed says, “and it’s going to get more exciting because the polls are going to start meaning more.” All but one of the Republican presidential candidates debated Thursday night in Des Moines – all except for Donald Trump, who chose not to participate because Fox News refused to cower to his demands to drop Megyn Kelly as a moderator. “I don’t know how I feel about this,” Ed says. “My initial impression was, maybe he doesn’t really want to be President.”
How did the rest of the candidates do? On this week’s show, you’ll hear Ed say:
Ted Cruz is getting whinier. Despite Cruz being the front runner in Trump’s absence, Ed says, “I think he lost his edge. He just looked like a whiner,” Ed says of Cruz’s insistence that people were attacking him.
Marco Rubio is still scripted. “I don’t know who he is, because all he does is practice these speeches and I don’t know if he wrote those speeches…I don’t dislike him and maybe he’ll be a good President someday, but we don’t know who he is.”
Ben Carson nailed it. “Did you hear what he said? He said if they respect our way of life,” referring to immigrants from Muslim nations. “He gets it.”
Jeb Bush did…better. “Jeb Bush did not win the debate. But he had some moments that were better than usual.”
Chris Christie got Hillary Clinton good. On Christie blasting Clinton’s “more convenient” use of a personal email while Secretary of State, Ed says, “That’s exactly right. Was she taking a bubble bath when this stuff went on in Benghazi?” Still, Ed says, “You’ve got to get past the other guys before you get to Hillary Clinton.”
Rand Paul is still out there. On Paul’s anti-bulk data collection rant, Ed says, “This again reminds us why we don’t support Rand Paul.”
John Kasich is just sad. “I don’t even know how he’s polling at two percent.”
And of course, you’ll hear audio clips from each one of the candidates so you can make up your own mind. If you missed the Republican debate this week, get caught up on this week’s The Main Event! You’ll also hear what everyone is still talking about from earlier in the week: Hillary Clinton’s coughing fit at the Democrat’s town hall, which Ed compares to the strong posture of Carly Fiorina Thursday night in the GOP “undercard” debate. If you want to hear from the woman who’s truly qualified to run for President, tune in to this week’s show; Ed urges you not to forget about Carly yet!
