Palm Springs to hire city attorney

The Palm Springs City Council on Wednesday will consider a contract to hire the city’s first in-house city attorney.

Edward Z. Kotkin, who served for eight year’s as Indio’s city attorney and worked for 11 years in the Riverside County District Attorney’s office, has been selected for the position, according to a statement on the city’s website.

During the past several months, the council has conducted a search for a city attorney, aided by a professional recruiting firm that specializes in municipal hires.

Mayor Robert Moon and Councilman Geoff Kors formed the subcommittee that conducted the search. All candidates were interviewed by the entire council, which last year decided to discontinue contracting with an outside legal firm for a city attorney.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Kotkin graduated from Haverford College in Haverford, Pa. in 1988. He received his JD from Georgetown University Law Center in 1991, according to the statement.
