Moreno Valley has installed three electric vehicle charging stations in the city hall parking lot that are available to the public.
The station, at Frederick Street and Calle San Juan De Los Logos, has gotten steady use since it opened during the first week of April, said Jeannette Olko, division manager for the city’s electric utility.
The station consists of one fast-charger, which provides a 30-minute charge, and two Level 2 chargers, which operate for several hours.
Starting next week, the city will begin charging for use of the Level 2’s, possibly 21 cents per kilowatt hour, Olko said.
“I don’t have solid numbers, but they are getting a lot use,” Olko said. “It seems like every time we look out the window someone is using them. We’ll see if that changes when we start charging a fee.”
The fast-charger is owned and operated by a private company that charges $9.95 for a 30-minute service, Olko said.
This is Moreno Valley’s second charging station. It opened a similar facility one year ago at the Walmart parking lot at 12721 Moreno Beach Drive.
