Cathedral City to welcome automotive training facility

Cathedral City and the College of the Desert in Palm Desert have broken ground on a training facility for the school’s automotive repair program.

Roadrunner Motors will cover nearly 26,000 square feet at 67-905 E. Palm Canyon Drive in Cathedral City, according to a statement on the city’s website.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Oct. 16. Cost of the facility, which is expected to open in the summer of 2026, was not disclosed.

“Building an educated workforce and growing hometown talent are foundational to our city’s future success, and we’re one step closer to that reality,” said Mayor Mark Carnevale in the statement. “College of the Desert’s Roadrunner Motors in Cathedral City is set to provide the training and skills needed for community members to access well-paying local jobs.”

Roadrunner Motors will have lift bays, classrooms and instructional labs. It will accommodate up to 100 students, and its curriculum will conform to industry standards and trends in automotive industry, according to the statement.
