Ralph Cavallo, a longtime Upland resident and community leader, has received the city’s first-ever Key to the City.
An Upland resident since 1971, Cavallo was presented the award during the Sept. 22 city council meeting, according to a statement released by the city.
“Ralph Cavallo represents the best of Upland,” said Mayor Bill Velto in the statement. “He has made an impact that will last for generations. It is only fitting that he be the very first to receive the Key to the City of Upland.”
Cavallo worked for Southern California Edison for 35 years. After he retired, Cavallo helped bring about the Upland Veterans Monument and Veterans Plaza, the rebuilding the Upland High School Vietnam Memorial, and development of the Upland Library Children’s Reading Room and the Friends of the Library Bookstore.
Cavallo also leads improvements to parks and athletic fields, according to the statement.
