CSUSB to host research conference

CSUSB joins California-Mexico academic coalition

Cal State San Bernardino has joined nine other California universities in a group that will try to build partnerships with institutions of higher learning in Mexico.

Other participating campuses include Cal State Stanislaus, Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Fresno, Cal State Dominguez Hills, San Diego State, Chico State, UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego, according to a statement on Cal State San Bernardino’s website.

The coalition was formed earlier this month during a conference at UC San Diego. That session was arranged by Assemblyman David Alvarez, D-San Diego.

Its primary goals are to set up “high-level” academic dialogue with universities in Mexico, begin dual-degree and student exchange programs, and train students for work in strategic sectors in their respective countries.

Robert Nava, vice president of CSUSB’s university advancement and executive director of its philanthropic foundation, represented CSUSB at the gathering.

“I was honored to stand up for CSUSB at this forum,” Nava said. “I am glad to see the UC and Cal State (schools) being more proactive in building these mutually important collaborations with Mexico.”
