CSUSB, UCR ranked among top universities for Hispanic students

The Inland Empire’s two largest universities have been named among the top 50 Hispanic-serving universities in the United States by a prominent political magazine.

Cal State San Bernardino ranked fourth and UC Riverside 32nd among colleges and universities that do the best job of educating Hispanic students and preparing them for the workplace, according to Washington Monthly.

The magazine conducted a survey with Excelencia in Education, a nonprofit group of educators and policy makers that promotes academic achievement within the Latino community.

Criteria includes transfer and graduation rates, faculty and staff diversity, and long-range planning regarding Hispanic education.

“Washington Monthly’s recognition reflects our commitment to serving our Latino students, giving them the knowledge and skills to succeed here at Cal State San Bernardino, which puts them on a path to reach their full potential,” said President Tomas D. Morales  in the statement.

Other top 20 California schools were Cal State Los Angeles (1), Cal State Dominguez Hills (5), Cal State Fresno (8), Cal State Bakersfield (10), Cal State Northridge (14), Stanislaus State (15), and Cal State Channel Islands (19).

Washington Monthly is a bi-weekly publication that covers government and politics.
