Fire devours Ontario warehouse

An employee at a paper warehouse in Ontario has been detained in connection with a massive fire at the facility early this morning.

Fire crews responded to the 1:45 a.m. blaze at the Kimberly-Clark facility in the 9500 block of Merrill Avenue, according to multiple reports.

Heavy smoke billowed through the roof of the one-million-square-foot facility and spread throughout nearby neighborhoods.

No injuries were reported. Several employees inside the building reportedly escaped unharmed.

“We’ve had good success this morning,” Deputy Fire Chief Mike Wedell told KNBC-TV Ch. 4.  “Firefighters were quickly overrun by fire throughout this building. They had to retreat for their safety because of the extreme growth over a short period of time.”

The suspect has not been identified. Several other agencies assisted in fighting the six-alarm fire, according to Wedell.
