Riverside Community Hospital has announced a $912 million expansion that will include an 11-story tower for patients and a parking garage.
The tower will cover 459,496 square feet and will include labor and delivery, postpartum and antepartum, a pharmacy, radiology, and an endoscopy suite, according to a hospital statement.
It will also be home to 220 surgical and 54 intensive care beds. Three floors will be left open for future patient and operating rooms.
There are now 1.63 beds for every 1,000 people in the Inland Empire, well below the national average of 2.35 beds, according to Pete Hempstead, the hospital’s chief executive officer.
“This expansion is a milestone for Riverside and the communities we serve,” Hempstead said in the statement. ”This new tower will not only enhance our ability to meet the growing needs of our patients, but also ensure this community has access to the highest standard of care, now and in the future.”
During the past four years, Riverside Community has spent $21 million on improvements, including adding 20 beds to its emergency room and installation of a 35-bed inpatient unit, according to the statement.
