Unemployment continues downward trend

IE jobless rate unchanged in February

The Inland Empire in February recorded a 5.5 percent unemployment rate, unchanged from the first month of the year.

Between January and February, non-farm employment in Riverside and San Bernardino counties increased from 1,684,900 to 1,687,400, while agricultural jobs declined by 400 during that time, according to data released March 22 by the state Employment Development Department.

Private education and health services added 3,800 jobs month over month, the most of any sector. Of that, health care and social assistance added 2,800 jobs, while private educational services added 1,000 jobs.

Trade, transportation, and utilities lost 4,700 jobs between January and February, the most of any sector.

The Inland region’s 5.5 percent jobless rate is unadjusted, meaning it doesn’t take into account seasonal factors that usually affect the state’s job market. California’s adjusted job rate in February was 5.3 percent, up from 5.2 percent in January, the department reported.
