The Inland Empire recorded a 5.3 percent unemployment in June.
That was up from 4.6 percent in April but below the 5.7 percent predicted one year earlier, the state Employment Development Department reported.
During the same period, California’s jobless rate was 5.2, while U.S. unemployment was 4.4 percent. The preceding numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
In June, non-agricultural employment in Riverside and San Bernardino counties totaled 1,721,700, a decline of 300 jobs from May. Agriculture added 600 jobs.
Government (-1,800) lost the most jobs between May and June, with 1,600 of those losses in local government. Leisure and hospitality lost 500 jobs.
Year-over-year, non-agriculture employment increased by 11,100 jobs, a modest 0.6 percent increase. Agricultural employment added 800 jobs, a 5.6 percent increase.
Private education and health services added 23,800 jobs, the most of any sector in the Inland region. Construction and government lost 5,300 and 3,600 jobs, respectively, the department reported.
