Local entity partners with NASA

The TriTech Small Business Development Center, which is part of the Riverside Community College District, has entered into an agreement with NASA that both parties hope will create economic development.

The Space Act Agreement, which is scheduled to be signed during a ceremony today at the district’s Rooftop Terrace in Riverside, will find ways for local businesses to use NASA technology, said Mark Mitchell, TriTech spokesman.

Conversely, the partnership will look for technology and other practices that NASA can use, Mitchell said.

“There’s a strong emphasis on small business because that’s where the innovation is,” Mitchell said.

The third part of the agreement – Regional Economic Development, or RED – is designed to create businesses, create and retain jobs and develop access to capital.

This is the first time NASA, which plans to use a number of its commercialization programs,  has partnered with a community college district.

The agreement will allow TriTech to be a liaison for licensing NASA research and development technologies while it’s developing  businesses and high-wage jobs in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, according to the statement.
