Luna named Staters’ retail VP

Bertha Luna has been named Stater Bros.’ senior vice president of retail operations.

Luna reports to President Greg McNiff and is responsible for procedures at Stater Bros.’ 170-plus supermarkets, according to a statement on the company’s website.

“Bertha’s promotion recognizes her outstanding leadership and the significant contributions she has made in strengthening the operations of our stores,” said Pete Van Helden, Stater Bros.’ chief executive officer, in the statement. “As she joins our executive leadership team, I look forward to working with her as she shares her perspectives and insights.”

Luna, who has 34 years experience in the grocery industry, began her career as a clerk with Lucky Stores. She joined Stater Bros. as a store manager when it merged with Lucky Stores in 1999, and moved up in retail supervision from there.

Luna has been vice president of retail for the past year, according to the statement.
