More store closings for Bed, Bath & Beyond

Bed Bath & Beyond will close 149 more stores, the latest reductions in an ongoing attempt by the company to avoid bankruptcy.

Nine California stores, including one in Beaumont in Riverside County, are among those that will be shuttered, according to multiple reports.

The announcement came one week after the home decor chain declared it would close 149 stores nationwide.

During the past several months, the Union, New Jersey-based retailer has closed, or is in the process of closing, about 400 stores. Those sites include five buybuy Baby locations and all 49 remaining Harmon Face Value stores.

Ultimately, Bed, Bath & Beyond – which had more than 1,500 stores as recently as five years ago – wants to reduce its locations from 760 to about 360, while leaving open its profitable stores in primary markets.

The Beaumont store is at 1642 E. 2nd St. Marketplace. No other stores in Riverside or San Bernardino counties were on the closure list, which was updated Tuesday on the Bed, Bath & Beyond website.
