OIA Passenger, Cargo Count Both Up

OIA performed well in 2017

Twenty seventeen was a landmark year for Ontario International Airport.

The airport accommodated 4.5 million passengers in 2017, a seven percent year-over-year increase and its highest passenger count since 2010, airport officials announced Monday.

In December, the airport – which last fall completed its first year of local control – handled 410,000 passengers, nearly 10 percent more than during the last month of 2016.

Cargo shipments also were up at Ontario International: a 15 percent increase between 2016 and 2017 and a nearly 14 percent increase between December 2016 and December 2017, the airport reported.

“Our aggressive and persistent efforts to position [Ontario International] as the new gateway to Southern California are reflected in solid, month-over-month increases in both customers and cargo,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in a statement. “The strong momentum built in 2017, the first full year of local control, gives us great optimism for what lies ahead in 2018.”
