Michael Burke, chancellor of the Riverside Community College District, said increased marketing has contributed to a growth in student enrollment in fall 2016.

On The Move

Riverside Community College District Chancellor Michael L. Burke has announced his retirement.

Burke has told faculty and staff that he will step down Dec. 31, according to a statement on the school’s website.

The six-month interval will allow district officials time to conduct a nationwide search for a replacement. The position is expected to be filled by Jan. 1.

“I will, of course, do all I can to make this transition as smooth as possible,” Burke said in the statement.

Burke, who has been teacher and administrator at community colleges for more than 35 years, became district chancellor in July 2014. Before that he was president of Milwaukee Area Technical College.

During his three years as chancellor, the district’s three campuses increased their enrollment and full-time faculty, according to the statement.
