Ontario International Airport has received a $10.8 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration that will pay for runway and taxiway improvements.
The funding from the administration’s Airport Improvement Program will rebuild more than 5,400 feet of paved taxiway on the airport’s south end, and add 24 low-emission energy units used for powering planes, according to a statement on the airport’s website.
The grants were announced by Sen. Alex Padilla and Sen. Adam Schiff.
“We are grateful to the FAA and our federal representatives for recognizing the importance of Ontario International to the Southern California region and the nation’s aviation system,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority board, in the statement. “This grant will allow us to build on our recent infrastructure improvements and maintain the highest levels of safety and efficiency.”
Ontario International has completed several major infrastructure projects recently including rebuilding a $90 million runway. Completed last year, the rebuild is the largest upgrade of its kind in the airport’s history, according to the statement.
