Ontario International Airport has received a $7.3 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration that will use to upgrade its north runway.
The funding is part of a $2 billion-plus Airport Improvement Program announced this month by the FAA and the U.S. Department of Transportation, according to a statement on the airport’s website.
That program pays for projects that improve safety and critical infrastructure.
“This investment demonstrates continued confidence in Ontario International Airport and the role we play in Southern California’s transportation network,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in the statement. “Rehabilitation of the north runway is another step in ensuring our facilities remain ready to serve the region for decades to come.”
Two years ago, Ontario International completed a $90 million rehabilitation of its south runway. Both projects are among the largest runway overhauls undertaken by the airport since it was returned to local control 10 years ago, according to the statement.
