Preckwinkle III named to Heritage Commission

John Preckwinkle III, has been appointed to the state’s Native American Heritage Commission by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

A Palm Springs resident, Preckwinkle served as a tribal council member for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians from 2021 to 2026, according to a statement on the governor’s website.

While on the council, Preckwinkle was chairman of its Cultural Preservation Committee from 2010 to 2021.

A registered Republican, Preckwinkle’s  non-compensated seat on the heritage commission must be approved by the state Senate, according to the statement.
