Construction has begun on the fourth phase of a public housing development in San Bernardino meant for low-income families and individuals.
Alder Square is the latest edition of Arrowhead Grove, a multi-million-dollar reconstruction of Waterman Gardens, a 38-acre housing development at 2634 Copper Lane that began construction in 2012, according to a statement.
The project’s developers – National CORE in Rancho Cucamonga, the Housing Authority of San Bernardino County, and several of their partners – held a groundbreaking Nov. 4. The project, which is expected to be completed in mid-2027, will consist of six three-story garden-style buildings and a one-story community center.
It will feature one-,two- and three-bedroom apartments. Buyers must earn between 30 to 80 percent of the area’s median income.
Arrowhead Grove’s first three phases have delivered 300 units.
“I’m so proud of the work we’ve accomplished through our stellar partnership with HACSB,” said Michael Ruane, president of National CORE, in the statement. “I’m excited to see what we will accomplish together for the residents of San Bernardino with this next phase of development.”
Amenities will include a swimming pool, picnic area, children’s play area, community garden, dog run, recreational space, and parking.
The city of San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, Hudson Housing Capital, Capital One, and the California Community Reinvestment Corporation are among those financing the project.
National CORE is a nonprofit that develops affordable housing.
