UC Riverside has opened a residential community that will house students from the university and the Riverside Community College District.
An estimated 250 district students on Aug. 23 began moving into North District 2, a 415,000-square-foot development that includes 429 units in two apartment-style buildings, according to a statement on the university’s website.
UCR student are expected to move in Sept. 19 and 20, one week before UCR’s fall semester is scheduled to begin.
The structures are five and seven stories and contains 1,568 beds. Work was completed last month after nearly two years of construction.
A ribbon-cutting/grand opening ceremony is scheduled to be held Sept. 29.
UCR officials hope the on-campus housing will encourage district students to transfer to UCR.
The buildings are the second phase of the North District Project. The first phase, two buildings that combined cover approximately 544,000 square feet, opened three years ago, according to the statement.
