UC Riverside has been ranked one of the top two universities in the United States for social mobility by a major publication.
The Inland Empire’s largest institution of higher learning, and Florida International University, shared the number-one ranking on U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 list of colleges and universities that do the best job educating underprivileged students.
The list was published Sept. 23. UC Riverside has been ranked first on that list five of the seven years it has been published, and was second the other two years, according to a statement on UC Riverside’s statement.
Cal State San Bernardino ranked 16th this year. No other Inland Empire college or university made the list.
In compiling the list, U.S. News considers the graduation rates of students who receive the Pell Grants which are given to students from families that earn less than $65,000 a year. More than 45 percent of UC Riverside’s undergraduates receive Pell Grants, according to the statement.
