University of Redlands, developer to negotiate University Village project

The University of Redlands has reached an exclusive negotiation agreement with a developer regarding the university’s proposed University Village project.

REACH Redlands LLC and university officials will now try to come up with a plan to develop 30 acres around the on-campus Arrow Rail Station, according to a statement on the university’s website.

The LLC is a joint venture of Republic Metropolitan in San Francisco, Arteco Partners in Pomona and Creative Housing Associates in Los Angeles. Following a lengthy deliberation, the group was chosen by the university’s selection committee, which is made up of trustees and administrators from the university.

“This is a big step forward in making the University Village project a reality,” said university President Krista Newkirk in the statement. “The University Village is vital to the university’s future, and beneficial to the entire Redlands community.”

University Village will host public gatherings, special events, seasonal celebrations and farmers’ markets. It will include retail and restaurants, a boutique and some residential, according to the statement.
