Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM 590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market with unique, witty and irreverent flair.
Investment:
This week Ed opens his show with a clip from the movie “Wolf on Wall Street” that alludes to the fact that in the stock market arena, investors have no idea whether the stock will go “up, down or sideways,” let alone the stockbrokers. The clip continues to suggest that people are addicted to playing the stock market and will continue to reinvest their money becoming merely “rich on paper,” and they remain on this ferris wheel that is the stock market.
Ed uses this clip to emphasize the importance of paying attention to your money and how you spend/invest it as well as paying attention to the happenings of the world, and the necessity to educate your children to do the same.
An example Ed uses about the great influence sales people have on our money is whole life insurance, in which he delves into reasons why it should not be purchased and your investment would be better off in other areas. Ed offers examples drawn from his personal experiences of finally discovering a financial advisor whose main task is not in making a sale, but in offering sound advice as to where your monies should be invested.
Free Thinking:
On a lighter note, Ed uses an example from Jimmy Kimmel’s “Lie Witness News” to highlight the epidemic of individuals not thinking for themselves and believing in fallacies distributed through various media sources. Ed urges people to keep their eyes open for the truth.
Fort Hood:
A tragedy that occurred this week is the shooting at Fort Hood. Ed offers his thoughts on the considerations by some in office that guns should be banned from military bases, including the continued restrictions of personal freedoms that he describes as a communist lockdown.
Government Rebates:
The federal government is offering rebates from $7,500 – $15,000 if you decide to purchase a Tesla, an electric vehicle, which has a price tag of $80,000. Ed offers his opinion as to why our tax dollars should not be used to offer such rebates and that the free market should dictate the price of Teslas.
Flight 370:
There are several conspiracy theories Ed offers in regards to the fate of Flight 370 that include a pending patent in which 4 of the 5 owners of it were onboard the flight; the Carlisle Group and the NSA (National Security Agency).
