Victorville has added five San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies and one crime analyst to its law enforcement personnel.
Officials also plan to hire five new sheriff’s service specialists, all of whom are expected to begin work later this month, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Victorville contracts with the sheriff’s department for its law enforcement.
The new employees will be paid for with funding from Measure P, a one-cent sales tax approved by Victorville voters in November. Measure P is meant to expand services and increase safety in the High Desert city.
Victorville officials expect Measure P to generate close to $19 million this fiscal year. The total cost of the new hires was not disclosed.
“This is a great time for the City of Victorville,” said Victorville Mayor Debra Jones in the statement. “We are realizing the fruits of Measure P to help us build a safer Victorville, but we’re also answering the call from our city to do better in terms of preventing and solving crime, traffic control, and safety issues.”
