Facility will help foster youth

Construction has begun on affordable housing that will serve foster youth in Riverside County.
Three single-family homes in the 16000 block of Perris Boulevard in Moreno Valley are being converted into 12 single-occupancy units that will be available to young people moving out of foster care and low-income families with young children, according to a statement on the county’s website.

Tenants will receive “wraparound” services from the project’s sponsor, Riverside County and Sigma Beta Xi Inc, a nonprofit in Moreno Valley. A unit for an on-site property manager will also be constructed, and when finished the project will include a technology center.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held May 21. The $3.9 million project will be paid for with funding the county received from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Construction is expected to be completed next spring, according to the statement.
