Perris park to get multi-million dollar upgrade

Perris will spend $8.5 million expanding and upgrading 62-year-old Foss Field Park.

The money, part of California’s recently passed budget, was part of $300 million secured by State Sen. Richard Roth, and Assemblyman Jose Medina, both Democrats from Riverside, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Possible improvements include a new recreational building, skate park, dog park, playground, shade structures, fitness equipment, walking trail and renovations to the park’s athletic fields.

The park will be expanded onto vacant property owned by the city.

“We are excited to receive this funding from the state budget for renovations to Foss Field Park, which will enhance the quality of life for this community,” said Mayor Pro tem Malcom Corona in the statement.  “We look forward to bringing a high-quality park to our residents and continue the standard of the excellence for parks in our city.”

Built in 1960, Foss Field Park covers 8.5 acres. It includes one baseball diamond, two half-court basketball courts, one volleyball court, two tennis courts, a picnic shelter, and a restroom.

All of Foss Field Park’s recreational amenities are original, and the facility has undergone only one upgrade, when a small playground structure was replaced five years ago, according to the statement.
