San Bernardino has installed an estimated 96 street lights in the northern part of the city.
The “Genevieve” Circuit – between Mountain View Avenue and Sierra Way from Marshall Boulevard to 34th Street – features 36 lights and polls, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Sixty lights and polls have been installed on the “Ralston” Circuit, which includes parts of seven thoroughfares – Sierra Way, Belle Street, Sonora Drive, 39th Street and Palmyra, Lugo and Ralston avenues – near Waterman Avenue.
San Bernardino Public Works crews recently activated both sets of lights, which city officials hope will make those neighborhoods safer and easier to walk.
“Some of these streets have been without lighting for several years,” said Azzam Jabsheh, deputy director of public works/city engineer, in the statement “Restoring lighting makes a huge difference to our neighborhoods, and is a priority for us.”
Funds from Measure S, a one percent sales tax approved by San Bernardino voters in 2020, paid for this project. Its exact cost was not disclosed.
