Palm Springs has updated its citywide emergency response plan.
The city council recently approved the upgrade, which details “a coordinated response and recovery strategy” for earthquakes, wildfires, floods, storms, hazardous material incidents and pandemics, according to a statement on the city’s website.
For the first time, the plan includes procedures for the evacuation and sheltering of pets and service animals.
“This plan strengthens our ability to act quickly and efficiently when disaster strikes,” said Fire Chief Paul Alvarado in the statement. “It also enhances coordination, and communications with county, state and federal partners to better serve our residents.”
The updated plan includes public education and emergency training and better communication systems for community alerts, according to the statement.
