Stater Bros. Charities has donated $77,000 to the U.S. Marine Corps.’ Toys for Tots.
That’s the largest donation the charitable organization has made to Toys for Tots in the 11 years it has participated in that program, according to a statement.
Officials with Stater Bros. Charities presented a check to the Marine Corp. in late December at the East Los Angeles Toy Depot.
At the same time, the charitable organization announced it’s expanding its efforts into Kern, Orange and San Diego counties, all of which are part of the Stater Bros.’ supermarket chain’s service area.
The Marine Corp. has been collecting unwrapped toys and distributing them to disadvantaged children across the country for nearly 70 years. Recipients are between the ages of one and 14 years old.
Stater Bros. Charities, the non-profit charitable arm of Stater Bros.’ Markets in San Bernardino, has donated more $362,000 to the Toys for Tots program since it began working with it in 2004.
“Every time our customers purchase [a] selected Stater Bros. brand or national brand products, they allow us to place more smiles on young faces,” said Pete Van Helden, president and chief operating officer for Stater Bros. Markets, in the statement. “For that we’re most thankful.”
