Stater Bros. launches charity effort

State Bros. has started its annual charitable campaign on behalf of the American Heart/American Stroke Association.

For the 16th straight year, all 169 Stater Bros.’ stores will participate in the “Have a Heart, Save a Heart” campaign, which raises money to combat heart disease and stroke, according to a statement.

The campaign started Wednesday and is scheduled to end Feb. 12.

Stater Bros. shoppers may participate by buying $1 and $5 paper hearts at the cash register. Shoppers are encouraged to write their name or the name of a loved one on the hearts, which will be displayed inside the store.

All funds raised will be used in local communities to teach CPR, get students into fitness programs and start educational programs in multicultural communities.

Historically, Stater Bros. – the largest private employer in the Inland Empire – has raised more than $5 million for the American Heart Association, including nearly $400,000 last year, according to the statement.
