Chaffey districts agree to dual enrollment pact

The Chaffey Community College District has signed a dual enrollment agreement with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.

Officials from both districts completed a memorandum of understanding during a Chaffey Joint Union board meeting earlier this month, according to a statement.

Currently, students with Chaffey Joint Union may take classes at Chaffey College, but they must do so separately from their regular classes. The new agreement – a pilot program that will be taught by Chaffey College and Chaffey Joint Union faculty – allows high school seniors to earn high school and college English credits at the same time in the same class.

“Our goal is for every high school student to have college credit because we believe that every student in the cities we serve is college material,” said Henry D. Shannon, Chaffey College’s superintendent and president, in the statement. “When they complete this class, we hope these students will continue toward obtaining a certificate or degree.”

The program is scheduled to start this fall.
