Funchess is PSUSD superintendent

Marcus Funchess has taken over as superintendent of the Palm Springs Unified School District.

Funchess, who began work last month, replaced Tony Signoret, who retired June 30, according to a statement on the district’s website.

Previously, Funchess was the assistant superintendent of human resources at the San Bernardino City Unified School District. Before that he was the district’s human resources director, as well an elementary school principal, assistant principal, and an elementary school teacher.

“I am honored to serve as the next Superintendent of the Palm Springs Unified School District,” Funchess said in the statement. “It is a privilege to join a forward-thinking district that proudly celebrates diversity and champions innovation.”

Funchess earned his doctorate from the University of Redlands, a master’s degree from National University, and a bachelor’s degree from Cal State San Bernardino, according to the statement.
