San Bernardino receives federal transportation grant

Grant will help Riverside pay for park improvements

Riverside has received a $6 million grant that it will use to upgrade Martha McLean Anza Narrows Park.

The money from the California Coastal Conservancy will pay for half of the $12 million project which will make it easier to reach the Santa Ana River and the Santa Ana River Trail, according to a statement on the city’s website.

Improvements to the 40-acre park at 5759 Jurupa Ave. are part of the Riverside Gateway Project Master Plan, which seeks to reconnect the community near the park with the Santa Ana River.

“These funds will assist in our efforts to connect Riverside with the river that gives our city its name,” said Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson in the statement. “I look forward to when all our residents have safe and convenient access to this recreational amenity.

Riverside plans to install a playground, nature play area, exercise stations, swings, open meadows, shade structures and a bandshell. More financing must be lined up before work can begin, according to the statement.
