The Inland Empire posted a 4.9 percent unemployment in April, down from a revised 5.1 percent in March and above the five percent prediction of one year earlier, according to the state Employment Development Department.
That compared with five percent unemployment in California and four percent nationwide, the department reported.
Those numbers are not seasonally adjusted. The state’s seasonally adjusted job rate, the second month in a row it hit that number.
Between March and April, non-agricultural employment in Riverside and San Bernardino counties increased by 5,600 jobs, to a total of 1,722,600. Agricultural employment remained the same during that time.
Construction had the best month of any sector, adding 2,800 jobs between March and April, while private education and health services added 1,500 jobs during that time. Most of the jobs in the latter category were in health care and social services.
Government lost 400 jobs, the most of any Inland sector month-over-month, the department reported.
