Inland furniture company moves to trade zone

A company that manufactures and distributes outdoor furniture is moving within the Inland Empire.

Summerville Furnishings Inc. will lease a 56,585-square-foot building at 1800 Turner Drive in Ontario, said Stefan Pastor, an associate with Colliers International.

The company is leaving an 80,000-square-foot building in Fontana that has served as its primary manufacturing and warehouse-distribution facility, Pastor said.

The Ontario building sits on 3.2 acres near Ontario International Airport. It’s part of the California Commerce Center, a federally designated Foreign Trade Zone.

Business located within those zones are not subject to customs duties and other taxes, an incentive designed to lower operating costs for U.S. businesses that engage in international trade.

Summerville Furnishings will lease the building from Jada Real Estate, which recently bought the industrial structure for $4.8 million from a private entity in Orange County. Pastor was part of a team of Colliers brokers that represented Jada Real Estate in the sale negotiations.

CBRE Group Inc. represented the seller and RE/MAX Time Realty represented Summerville Furnishings in the lease negotiations. It was not known how many people Summerville Furnishings will employ at its new facility.

Officials with Summerville Furnishings, who plan to use the Ontario building for distribution throughout the United States, asked that terms of lease not be disclosed, Pastor said.
