Maglica accepts Distinguished Business award

One of the Inland Empire’s largest manufacturers has been recognized by San Bernardino County for its contributions to the local economy and the community.

Tony Maglica, founder and owner Maglite Inc, accepted the 2025 Fourth District Distinguished Business Award Aug. 25 at Maglite’s Ontario headquarters.

Fourth District Supervisor Curt Hagman presented the award and praised Maglite – maker of heavy-duty flashlights favored by law enforcement and the military – for not following other manufacturers who have left California for other states, or who have left the country.

“You’ve always been one of the companies in my district I’ve looked up to and bragged about.” Hagman told Maglica. “Through all the struggles of globalization you’ve figure out how to make things work here. We hope it remains here for generations to come.”

Maglica, who founded Maglite in 1955, said he will not leave.

“We have to do it here, for our people, Maglica said. “This country was built by guys like me who started with nothing. It’s very difficult to run a business today, but I have a lot of good people working for me, and they don’t quit.”

Maglite employs several thousand people and operates out of its 700,000-square-foot headquarters at 2001 S. Hellman Ave., according to the company’s website.
