ONT gears up for travelers

Ontario International Airport is predicting a busy holiday travel season.

An estimated 303,266 air passengers are expected to pass through the airport between now and Jan. 4, according to the Ontario International Airport Authority.

Dec. 22 (19,182 passengers) Dec. 28 (19,099) and Dec. 29 (19,182) are expected to be the busiest days. Christmas Day (10,799) and New Year’s Day (13,973) are expected to be the days with least number of travelers.

Airlines at Ontario International are offering 378,406 seats during the 18-day holiday period, which began Sunday. That’s 5.3 percent more than were offered in 2019.

About eighty percent of those seats are expected to be filled. All of those estimates are based on travel schedules.

“We are preparing for the anticipated increase in winter holiday travel and doing everything we can to avoid the stress that can be common at other airports,” said Atif Elkadi, the authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

The airport recently opened Lot 6, which has more than 13,000 spaces, to help with the holiday travel season. The cost of a space is $15 per day.
