Riverside meat packer to shut down

A meat-packing facility in Riverside will shut down, eliminating 374 jobs in the process.

The plant at 15555 Meridian Parkway is operated by Swift Beef Co. a subsidiary of JBS USA, according to multiple reports.

Based in Greeley, Colo., JBS USA is a global food company that provides meat and poultry products to customers in approximately 100 countries, according to the company’s website.

The plant’s last day of operation is scheduled for Feb. 2. Affected employees will be offered positions at other JBS USA operations. Those who do not relocate will have 60 days before their jobs are eliminated.

Production at the Riverside facility will be moved to other JBS USA facilities. Swift Beef is closing the facility in an attempt to streamline its operation, according to reports.
