California’s unemployment rate was 5.6 percent in September, essentially unchanged from the previous two months, according to data released Dec. 12.
Four thousand five hundred non-agricultural jobs were lost statewide in September, which was the sixth consecutive month the number of unemployed workers in California has risen, the state Employment Development Department reported.
Year-over-year, the number of unemployed workers has gone up 30,300.
Five of California’s 11 industry sectors gained jobs in September: private education and health services (3,100), leisure and hospitality (5,600), government (1,800), financial (300), and construction (100).
Professional and business service (minus 10,400) and trade, transportation and utilities (minus 8,700) recorded the largest losses.
The Inland Empire unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in September, down from a revised 6.1 percent in August, the EDD reported.
