The Riverside University Health System-Medical Center has been recognized for its surgical care by the American College of Surgeons.
For the second consecutive year, healthcare facility operated by Riverside County has been honored for reaching “meritorious outcomes” in two surgical categories: “all cases” and “high risk cases,” according to a statement on the county’s website.
More than 600 hospitals were considered. RUHS was one of 76 that achieved meritorious status with 51 of those located in the United States.
“At RUHS – Medical Center, we strive to see patients heal quickly, get back to their lives and families and experience improved quality of life,” said Dr. Raul Coimbra, RUHS-MC’s surgeon-in-chief, in the statement. “This award reflects the incredible commitment of the Medical Center to high-level care for surgical patients in Riverside County and beyond.”
Eight categories are considered: mortality, cardiac events, pneumonia, unplanned intubation, being on a ventilator for more than 48 hours, renal failure, surgical site infections and urinary tract infections, according to the statement.
