San Manuel tribe donates $1 million to small businesses

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians recently donated $20,000 each to 50 local small businesses.

The donations, made in partnership with the Inland Empire Economic Partnership, were designed to help businesses that have been hurt by COVID-19, according to a statement on the tribe’s website.

Businesses that received help from the tribe’s $1 million Small Business Relief Fund included restaurants and personal care services, i.e., businesses considered essential but not vital to the local economy.

San Manuel Chairman Ken Ramirez made the surprise announcement during a virtual event that each business would receive a $20,000 grant.

“We all look forward to the day when you can fully reopen your doors for good and welcome your customers back,” Ramirez said. “Until then, you have a hand up from San Manuel to cover expenses and keep your employees on the payroll.”
