Stater Bros., UFCW reach agreement

Members of six locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union have ratified a three-year contract with State Bros. Markets.

The agreement includes wage increases, guaranteed minimum hours, better health care and pension guarantees, according the UFCW Local 135.

“By ratifying this contract, {Stater Bros. workers] have not only secured raises you deserve, better healthcare, and protected pension over the next three years, but you have set the benchmark for generations of essential California grocery workers for years to come.”

The agreement, which union members approved overwhelmingly, went into effect Monday and is retroactive to March 7. Exact terms were not disclosed.

The agreement affects approximately 13,000 of the 18,000 workers employed by the San Bernardino-based grocery store chain.

Stater Bros. is the largest private employer based in the Inland Empire and is the largest privately-owned supermarket chain in Southern California, with 171 stores, according to company officials.
