Unemployment continues downward trend

The Inland Empire posted a five percent unemployment rate in February, down from a revised 5.7 percent during the first month of the year, according to data released today.

The two-county region added 18,000 non-agricultural jobs between January and February, helping to bring about a total of 1,628,000 jobs statewide, the state Employment Development Department reported.

California’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent last month, while the national unemployment rate registered 4.1 percent, the state Employment Development Department reported.

All of the above figures are unadjusted, meaning they don’t take into account seasonal factors that typically influence the job market. Adjusted data is not available for Riverside or San Bernardino counties.

California’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was 5.4 percent.

Leisure-hospitality and construction added 6,900 and 4,700 jobs, respectively, last month, while educational and health services (3,000), professional and business services (2,700), manufacturing (1,400), financial activities (00), other services (00), and information (100) also recorded gains.

Year-over-year, non-agricultural employment increased by 98,300, a 6.4 percent increase, the department reported.
